We only hire counselors who have a pet of their own. We believe we can teach you about our standards for pet care, but we can’t teach you how to love them – or what an awesome responsibility it is to care for other people’s pets like they’re your own.

Pet Care Counselor

Pet Camp, San Francisco’s original doggie daycare and pet boarding facility, is looking for a dedicated dog and cat lover to join our talented, fun, hard-working team of pet care professionals! As a member of an award-winning pet care team, you will be caring for up to 130 overnight dog lodgers and doggie day campers every day and providing them with everything they need to stay happy and healthy while at camp: safe, fun outdoor exercise in our 20,000 square feet of play space, fresh food and water throughout the day, medications as needed, sparkling clean and disinfected campsites for resting and sleeping, training, special play sessions, baths…basically, attending to their every need and wish! After all, Pet Camp is where pets do what pets love!

Dogs are fun but can be very messy, so you’ll be doing a lot of cleaning, dishes and laundry. We have every modern convenience to make the cleaning easier, but be prepared for lots of hard, physical work. This includes cleaning up pet waste, managing garbage/recycling/compost, and all the other non-glamorous stuff that comes with pet care. If you are squeamish about these types of things and don’t want to get your hands (and clothes) dirty, this is not the place for you.

While previous professional pet care experience is not required, it is highly desirable. What is required is personal experience having your own dog (and cat, too; that would be even better!). It takes a very special person to truly understand the great honor and responsibility involved in caring for furry family members, and Pet Camp is committed to only employing those who feel this in their very core. If you don’t have a cat, you should still be comfortable handling them and being around them, since occasional cat handling and bathing is required. If you have any pet allergies whatsoever, this is not the place for you.

Here are some other requirements for the position:

You must have a valid driver’s license. While you won’t need a car to work here, you will be trained to drive our Pet Camp Express vans to transport pets to and from their homes, so our counselors need to be road-ready.
You must be able and willing to work weekends and holidays; this is not optional. Pet Camp provides exceptional care to our dog and cat campers 365 days per year (even on Sundays, and yes, even on Christmas day), so if you are not able or are unwilling to meet this requirement, please do not apply.

Most shifts are 8 hours long, some starting as early as 6:30 am and some ending as late as 8 pm. Ideal candidates are flexible with their availability and are willing to work both early morning and later afternoon/evening shifts.

Canine Enrichment Counselor

Pet Camp, San Francisco’s most award-winning pet care lodging and day care facility, is looking for experienced dog handlers to join our Canine Enrichment Counselor team.

Under direct supervision of our Canine Enrichment Coordinator, the enrichment team provides a variety of specially-tailored activities to our canine campers who don’t fit the traditional model of group dog play. This one-of-a-kind department ensures that our special-needs campers stay active and engaged, both mentally and physically, during their overnight lodging or day care visits.

The activities provided by the Enrichment team are designed for high-activity dogs, puppies who need special socialization and introductions to new experiences, senior dogs who require activities designed for mobility and movement, shy or nervous dogs who need targeted one-on-one attention, and every dog in between! Positions are available for either full or part-time, and start at $19 per hour, depending on experience (candidates with previous dog training experience may be eligible for a higher starting salary).

Here’s what we’re looking for in candidates:

We believe in using only positive reinforcement with every camper interaction at Pet Camp, so while professional dog training experience is not a requirement, having a baseline knowledge of the principles of Operant Conditioning is.
You must be able to handle dogs of all sizes, ages and temperaments. If you are uneasy around big dogs, specific breeds, or reactive dogs, this is not the job for you.
All candidates are required to be available to work weekends and holidays. We provide our signature care to our clients 365 days a year, so every counselor needs to be able and willing to work when needed.
Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the pet care industry; this could include doggie day care, boarding facilities, vet hospitals, and other applicable fields.
Flexible availability to work early mornings, afternoons, or early evenings is very desirable.
Having your own dog is also very desirable (though not a requirement; we know how difficult housing is in S.F with pets)

Front Desk Counselor

Pet Camp is looking for an extraordinary pet and “pet parent” pro to join our front desk team!

Pet Camp is San Francisco’s ORIGINAL and most honored pet lodging facility, proudly serving the dogs and cats of the Bay Area for over 20 years! Our front desk counselors are responsible for upholding our solid reputation of providing exceptional customer service by checking pets in and out of camp, answering phones and fielding questions, giving tours of our facilities, and ensuring flawless execution of all of our campers’ activities and care with their great listening skills and meticulous attention to detail.

As a member of an award-winning pet lodging team, you should have exemplary customer service skills, including the ability to anticipate our client’s needs and meet/exceed their expectations. You should possess strong critical thinking skills and be able to practice good judgement in a variety of fast-paced situations. You should work seamlessly with co-workers and management alike, be able to follow directions carefully, and exude confidence in your actions and interactions with all of our customers. Remember, YOU are the face of Pet Camp, and should represent us with pride!

We’re an independent family-owned business, so we need folks who are flexible and ready to pitch in wherever needed. The pet care industry is busiest when other people are off, so expect to be working weekends and holidays when needed; if you don’t “do” weekends or holidays, then this is NOT the industry for you; really, we mean it! Shifts are up to 8 hours long, and start as early as 6:45am, and end as late as 7:30 pm.

You may be expected to work hands-on with our cat campers at our fabulous Cat Safari location in Presidio Heights, especially during high-occupancy times of the year. Ideal candidates love cats, have or have had their own cats, are comfortable around cats, and don’t have ANY cat allergies whatsoever. If you are “not a cat person,” then this is not the job for you (again, we really mean it!)

Pet Care Assistant

Pet Camp, San Francisco’s original premier lodging experience for pets, is looking for caring, conscientious and dedicated pet care assistants to work along side the Pet Camp Counselors over the busy summer and winter holiday seasons! As a member of an award-winning pet lodging team, you will be helping to care for up to 160 dogs!

Duties Include:

Assisting in group play (you would never be alone with a group of dogs).
Providing one-on-one play time for dogs.
Helping take dogs to and from play group.
Cleaning (we do lots and lots of cleaning).
Laundry (yup, lots of that too – but no ironing).
Dishes (sadly, yes those too).

What You Learn:

Understanding dog body language.
Using industrial equipment.
Working with a team.
Time management.

What You Get:

Before you ask, you MUST be available to work at least one weekend day; ability to work holidays (or days surrounding holidays) is a big plus; worked holidays are payable at time and a half.
