Kids, San Francisco, and School Fundraisers

Pet Camp opened in 1997.  As the owner of a small business, I know how hard (and rewarding) it can be to run a small business, and I suspect any business in San Francisco.  As a father of 4 now 20 -something year old kids, I also know how hard (and again how rewarding) it is to raise kids in San Francisco.  While I will defend San Francisco to anyone outside the City who tries to bash it (Donald, Elon, Dennis – I am talking to you), raising children in San Francisco comes with its own unique challenges.  It would be easy to think that those challenges were limited to responding to the 1st time your kids say “hey, where are the naked guys?” as you drive carpool through the Castro, but San Francisco parents know that the education and the school lottery are at the top of the parental challenges in San Francisco.

My family made the decision to stay in San Francisco and raise our 4 children here.  This was not an easy decision and, to be candid, I can’t tell you with 100% certainty that it was the right decision.  But now that my kids are in their 20s, I can tell you that staying in San Francisco seems to have served them well.  They are street smart, school smart, tolerant, and (I think) well-rounded.  They are still in their 20s so, at least to their dad, they still have a lot to learn.

If you are a human kid parent who has made the decision to stay in San Francisco as your kids hit school age, we want to thank you for committing to our City.   March and April are often school fundraiser time of the year, so if your child’s school is having a fundraiser and you need a donation, hit us up!  Every year Pet Camp donates upward of 50 gift baskets and gift certificates to San Francisco schools.  It’s another way that Pet Camp supports San Francisco and the families that call it home.

Just send us an email to havingfun@petcamp.com with your school’s details and we’ll take it from there.

Thanks for reading.
