Rowdy and Archie: A True Neighborhood Pet Store in San Francisco

In our continued effort to build a stronger community within the pet care space, this is our newest monthly blog showcasing locally-owned and operated pet care companies! Neighborhood Pet Story Day takes place annually on the fourth Saturday of September. This year, we get to celebrate with Rowdy and Archie.

Were you a previous customer of Pet Food Express that had to pivot when their California Street location shut down? Instead of traveling far distances or paying high shipping fees, why not take a nice stroll down Sacramento Street to shop at Rowdy & Archie! While you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by and say “Hi” to Brittany and the counselors at Cat Safari, which is only two blocks away.

Rowdy & Archie was born from a desire to create a haven where pet owners could find everything they need to care for their furry friends, especially as Pet Food Express left the area.   Kalied and his dad, Amjad (aka “Sweet Jimmy”), run Rowdy & Archie but also own Christa Wonderful Market, a deli across the street. Two of the deli’s customers were the pet parents of Rowdy and Archie. Over the years, Kalied and his dad had built a trustworthy and friendly relationship with both of them. One day, both pet parents had come into the store and their dogs had an altercation inside. Following that incident, the pet’s parents became friends and socialized their dogs over time (Doesn’t that sound reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet?). The name “Rowdy & Archie” is a tribute to those two pet parents, their dogs and the close relationship Kalied and his dad had built with their customers over time.

Kalied provides knowledgeable assistance and allows customers to try samples so they can ensure their pet likes the food or treats prior to investing in a large supply. Some of his favorite recommendations include the Polkadog Cake Batter chews, Badland’s Ranch Superfood, and essentially anything by Dr. Marty’s! Rowdy & Archie also carries family-owned and local brands like Presidio Natural Pet Co., Emerald Pet and Caro’s Doggi Delights (Rowdy & Archie is one of only six stores in SF that carries Caro’s products).

In addition to serving the Presidio pet parent community with an easy one-stop shop for all your pet supply goods, Rowdy & Archie also plans to host regular adoption events. Follow them on social media for event updates.

Instead of placing that online order, get your steps in by taking a nice stroll down Sacramento Street and support a small, family-owned business! If you see Kalied and his security dog, Siv, send them our regards.
